| History of the Inn |
| Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this lovely Victorian home was built in 1888 as a summer retreat by R. Withers Memminger. Mr. Memminger was a minister from Charleston, South Carolina, and a son of C.G. Memminger, the first Secretary of the Treasury of the Confederate States. Known locally as Five Oaks, the Inn served as a summer home until 1911 when Thomas Grimshawe purchased it. Mr. Grimshawe migrated to America from Lancaster, England, where his family had prospered in the coal industry. Thomas Grimshawe, along with his wife Elizabeth, occupied the home as a year-round residence until 1930. The home was then given to their only daughter, Greta Grimshawe King, and her husband Campbell King, Sr. as a wedding present. G reta and Campbell lived in the house until 1940 when they sold the property Over the next 45 years the home was used as a summer residence. Beginning in 1985, the home underwent major renovations. Purchased in December 1992 by Dennis and Sandi Page, Fl at Rock Inn opened its doors in May of 1993. |
