|
| Haverkamps Linn Street Homestay B&B at 619 North Linn Street in Iowa City, Iowa, is an excellent example of Edwardian architecture. It was built in 1908 for a Czech immigrant and his family. The large front porch is ideal for resting, relaxing, visiting or studying at the table and chairs or on the old-fashioned swing and park bench. You will be able to watch the neighbors/students going to and from downtown and the University of Iowa campus 7 blocks to the South and West. |
| Clarence and Dorothy Haverkamp are the owners/hosts and their warmth and hospitality are only matched by the ambiance they have created here. Their home/B&B is filled with wonderful antiques and collections, which harken back to an era of graciousness and charm. You'll find it hard to leave the reception room to the left of the front door because of the wonderful men's and women's hats and clothing paraphanalia, which are changed with the seasons. You may try them on in front of the big mirror and even wear them on your outings, if you wish. The living room is for visiting, reading and relaxing. The TV is in the library/den. The large dining room is where you enjoy a full breakfast prepared by the chef, Clarence. Upstairs are the sleeping rooms, fr om a small single room to larger rooms with double beds. All furnished with antiques and decorations. The guests share the large bathroom off the central hallway. |
| There are many interesting attractions to see in and around Iowa City. When you have seen them all, it is only a short distance to the Amish community of Kalona, the 7 villages of Amana, the Herbert Hoover Museum/Library at West Branch, and the Czech Museum and Art Museum in Cedar Rapids. |
